The Fourth Annual February Writing Retreat (this year in Cambria) was the most terrific of all. Out of respect for the Cambria 6, some of whom are Facebook-averse writers, here they are, backs to me, watching the sun go down. Bonded by stories and laughter and tears, great meals, writing sessions, shopping! and a final caper that sent us all home with a huge grin. Thank you, my writers. You know who you are. What a glorious time we had together.

Upcoming- HerShop
What a gorgeous day to announce this wonderful news. Amy Ferris, writer extraordinaire, author, editor, screenwriter, memoirist is coming to LA in June to do a one-day Writing HerShop with Jody Kobak Feagan and Katie Rountree. I went to one of Amy’s HerShops last year and her extraordinary gifts deepened and changed my writing. If you have a story to tell (don’t we all) run, don’t walk to be with Amy Ferris. She is a rare teacher. And…. I’m thrilled to announce I’ll be teaching a HerShop in June myself – Screenwriting RX – for aspiring screenwriters who want to work on their scripts or want to adapt their books for TV/film. Please see the website for more info. NOTE: These will fill up quickly.
#AlchemyofHealing
How I love these gorgeous women who came to the second-ever Alchemy of Healing Workshop yesterday. We chanted in Sanskrit and Hebrew, wrote without fear, practiced gentle and restorative yoga with Ann Braden and made magic together. The colors of my mother’s paintings brightened by the hour. By day’s end we were sisters. #Howthelightgetsingetsin #amwriting#amteaching #alchemyofhealing
Take Note
Hollye Dexter, author and activist posted this. I’m a supporter of Women Against Gun Violence. Please support them, too. We must do something.#nomoreguns

Alchemy of Healing Workshop
When Ann Braden and I decided to create a yoga/writing workshop – The Alchemy of Healing – we wanted to begin a practice of celebrating the cracks within us and filling them with gold. Today, we received this exquisite song from Patty Paul. It broke my heart and then filled the cracks with gold.
Peter Mayer’s ‘Japanese Bowl.” Please listen…
“There is a crack in everything. That’s how the light gets in” – Leonard Cohen.

Shades of Blue
Another gem from the wonderful Amy Ferris (whose groundbreaking book of essays, SHADES OF BLUE, by writers on depression, suicide and feeling blue has just launched.) I relate to that ‘fabulous sexy trio – shame, fear and guilt’ – that keep me from asking for what I need. Anyone else relate?
Corie Skolnick
Wow. Wow. Wow. What an interview with my friend and brilliant writer Corie Skolnick.
“Ron Shelton Is Writing the Movie Adaptation of Her Novel: Corie’s Story,” is a great read.
#InspireAGirl

Jillian Lauren
I am catching up on my reading and on posts by authors I deeply admire. Here’s one of them. Jillian Lauren. Her post about the cost (and the rewards) of telling her truth hits home to me. Her book – Everything You Ever Wanted – is exquisitely written and yes, deeply deeply honest. Thank you, Jillian.
How a Kitten Eased My Partner’s Depression
I just read this and fell in love with the writer. And Sadie, her kitten. Hope you read it. Good to the last words… http://nyti.ms/1IO4T2U
