Slipper Camp: Bloodline/Family

unnamed (3)

My next online writing Slipper Camp – Bloodline – begins on the day after Father’s Day, June 21st. I was inspired by this quote: ‘Walking, I am listening to a deeper way. Suddenly all my ancestors are behind me. Be still, they say. Watch and listen. You are the result of the love of thousands’- Linda Hogan.

We will be writing about our ancestors and our current family. This hits home for me, a daughter of the Holocaust whose family perished in the camps. As always, you can stay home and write in your pjs and slippers. As always, if you enroll you will receive 3 prompts a day on Bloodline/Family (every other day) for 20 days. As always, you will write 1,000 words on a prompt of your choosing and send it to me every other day.

If you want to join Slipper Camp please email me at lspravina21@gmail.com and I’ll send you details. Starts June 21. Ends July 9.

THANK YOU

Slipper Camp: Mothers and Daughters

18620919_10154365723495957_6723926101871604873_o

As Mother’s Day approaches I think about my own mother and her mother before her. The grandmother I never knew, the gentle woman who died in Auschwitz.
My mother, who escaped with my father, became a motherless daughter when she was only 24. She never got to say goodbye to her mother. And she never got over the loss.
I was raised by a woman with a deep motherwound. A wound she tried to heal by pouring her love into my brother and me. When that didn’t heal her grief she became a painter who poured her sorrow and joy onto canvases of color and light.
I was inspired to create MOTHERS AND DAUGHTERS ONLINE WRITING SLIPPER CAMP when I studied this photo of my mother and me.
At three months old I’m trying to leap out of her arms. Eager to see the world. Unwilling to be contained. Looking for something out there, something my mother can’t give me.
My mother smiles tentatively. Her eyes are looking somewhere else, too. Somewhere she longs to be. We can’t connect.
That set the template of our entire relationship.
Five years ago I created 30 illustrated prompts for Mothers and Daughters Online Writing Slipper Camp, a 20 day course. Every year, I rewrite the prompts. Every year I’m blown away by the writings I receive.
I hope you will be one of ten writers who sign up for Mothers and Daughters Online Writing Slipper Camp. It begins the day after Mother’s Day, May 9th, and ends May 28th.
– You will receive three illustrated prompts every other day.
– You will send me 1,000 words on whatever prompt you choose.
– I will read everything you write.
– By the end of Slipper Camp you will have written 10,000 words.
– Then we will talk about your writings.
– It’s only open to the first ten writers who sign up.
– Please PM me for tuition cost and details.
– Payment secures your spot.
** Mothers and Daughters Online Writing Slipper Camp is a fundraiser for mothers and daughters in Ukraine. A portion of every tuition will go to www.Care.com – they are on the ground in Ukraine.

What a nerve-wracking time! I’ve been searching for the next topic for my online Slipper Camp but everything I thought of, I ended up rejecting. Not deep enough. Not relevant enough for today’s world. Then I came upon this photo of a majestic sand castle created at the water’s edge. I marveled at the non-attachment of building such a creation, knowing it would be destroyed by the next wave. That will be the topic of the next online writing Slipper Camp – Impermanence. To live our lives in every moment. To build, to love, knowing that life can change in a moment. Like a beautiful sand castle that’s washed away by the next wave. If you want to write about that online with me, please PM me and we’ll send you details.

Starts November 12th. Limited to 10 writers, five spaces taken already. LOVE!

EDIT:  Last night I realized I wanted this Slipper Camp to raise $ for an extraordinary woman’s mission. An extraordinary Mother. Maggie Doyne. She started BlinkNow – and Kopila Valley school – in 2006 in Nepal when she was 19 years old… with her babysitting money! Since then Maggie’s changed the lives of countless women and children through a school, a women’s center, a safe house, and a children’s home.
Right now she’s quarantined in Surkhet with 54 of her kids. Slipper Camp Mothers and Daughters will be a fundraiser for them. A portion of every tuition will go straight to BlinkNow.
Here’s Maggie in a piece from CNN. Once you’ve seen it you’ll know why she and her mission are the perfect choice for us.

Home is a breathtakingly universal need. Minutes we spent waiting for someone who never came.

You will be prompted to write about it all.

Natalie Goldberg wrote: “Our lives are both ordinary and mythical. We live and die, age beautifully or full of wrinkles. We wake in the morning, buy yellow cheese and hope we have the money to pay for it. Slipper Camp – Mothers and Daughters -Mothers Day

Many mothers and daughters have taken this Slipper Camp together and loved it. Sign up for yourself and/or give it as a special Mother’s Day gift to your mom or your daughter.

SLIPPER CAMP: FREEDOM

15317947_10153907015395957_5108013391965629602_n

Dear Writers,

The last Slipper Camp – MINDFULNESS – took us into the election and past it. Twelve writers wrote at a heightened time, a critical time in our lives and the life of this country. I don’t need to remind any of us about that.

Like a beautiful sand castle that’s washed away by the next wave, our lives changed in a moment on November 8th. Every Slipper Camp writer who wrote on the 30 prompts about MINDFULNESS said it was an enormously positive, grounding, helpful and, for some, a lifechanging experience to be writing at that time.

In the past month I’ve searched within and without to find the topic of the next Slipper Camp. I finally settled on FREEDOM. Please click on the photo above. It helped me to decide on that as our topic.

I can’t think of anything more relevant about which to write 10,000 words in January. FREEDOM. We’ll be writing on Martin Luther King Day, the March on Washington and the Inauguration. We’ll be writing about FREEDOM from many different angles. I’m already creating the 30 prompts we’ll be using and hope you’ll be writing along with me. FREEDOM. Don’t you love the ring of that word?

WHAT IS SLIPPER CAMP?

SLIPPER CAMP is an online writing class. It’s open to only 10 writers who will receive 3 illustrated prompts about FREEDOM every OTHER morning for 20 days along with daily writing tips and coaching suggestions.

If you join you’ll be writing 1,000 words (2 pages) on 1 of the 3 daily prompts and sending them to me by midnight every OTHER day. Whenever I get your words I’ll read them and let you know I got them. At the end of Slipper Camp we’ll set a one-hour call to talk about your writings.

Hundreds of writers have taken this structured online writng course over the past years. The most common comment I hear is that the combination of structure and accountability yields good writing. Books, screenplays, a play, two novels and numerous published articles have been generated in Slipper Camps.

If you want to join Slipper Camp please email me at pravina@aol.com (or join the facebook event here) and we’ll send you details. Starts January 15. Ends February 2. Limited to 10 writers, 5 spaces are taken already.

Slipper Camp is a place where you discover yourself on the page.
Slipper Camp allows you to remember who you are.
If you have more to say (who doesn’t?) please join Slipper Camp.
If your story is ongoing please use Slipper Camp to continue it.
If you feel you don’t write enough, come write in Slipper Camp.
Please join us.
FREEDOM!

SLIPPER CAMP: MINDFULNESS

14568199_10153759094655957_6486554691410864052_n

I’ve been searching for awhile for the next topic of my online writing Slipper Camp. This one will take us into the the election and past it. (Starting October 29, ending 20 days later.) We will be writing at a heightened time, a critical time in our lives and the life of this country. I don’t need to remind any of us about that. Every topic I thought of I ended up rejecting. Not deep enough to create 30 prompts around at a time like this. Then I came upon this photo. It reminded me of one I took years ago on Fire Island. A photo of a majestic sand castle I found early one morning as the tide was coming in. And I marveled at the non-attachment of building such a creation, knowing it would be destroyed by the next wave. So here’s the topic of the next online writing Slipper Camp – Mindfulness. We’ll be writing about times we’ve lived our lives in every moment. Times we’ve been present even as we’ve built and loved, knowing that life can change in a moment. Like a beautiful sand castle that’s washed away by the next wave. Impermanence. Non-attachment. The circle of life. Hope and faith. Mindfulness. That’s what I’m creating prompts about. I hope you’ll be writing along with me.

It will be the same format as always – 10 writers will receive 3 illustrated prompts about Mindfulness every OTHER morning for 20 days along with daily writing tips and coaching suggestions.

You’ll be writing 1,000 words (2 pages) on 1 of the 3 daily prompts and sending them to me by midnight every OTHER day.

Slipper Camp – HOME

12819318_10153268233840957_3892518850728619321_o

Dear Ones,
One little letter off! On April 10, 2016, HOME will be the subject of the fourth online Writing Slipper Camp of 2016. Not Hope, HOME.

That’s not to say that HOPE wouldn’t be a terrific topic for a Slipper Camp. But after creating 60 prompts on LOVE over the past few months, Hope was leading me down some of the same roads as I thought about new prompts.

So we’ll be writing about HOME. Be it ever so humble, HOME is more than a place. It’s also an idea. It’s where the heart is.

I hope you will be 1 of 10 writers who will receive 3 illustrated prompts about HOME every OTHER morning for 20 days, along with daily writing tips and coaching suggestions. You will be writing 1,000 words (2 pages) on 1 of the 3 daily prompts and sending it to me by midnight every OTHER day.

Slipper Camp is a 20 day online writing experience. (10 days of receiving writing prompts; 2 days to write each one.) I call it Slipper Camp because you can stay home and write in your PJ’S and slippers.

Every morning at 7:00 AM the day’s prompts will arrive in your mailbox. You will be asked to write 1,000 words every other day (approx. 2 pages) on a prompt of your choice and you will send it to me by midnight of the following day.

Every day I will acknowledge that I got it. Every day I will read your writing. But I won’t comment on it yet. (Because Slipper Camp is designed to create a rhythm of writing daily or every other day, without feedback. Yet.)

When the 20 days are up, you will have written 10,000 words. No small feat.

When the 20 days are up we will talk one-on-one (over the phone) about your writing.

NOTE: SLIPPER CAMP IS ONLY OPEN TO THE FIRST 10 WRITERS WHO SIGN UP. Can’t read more than that every day!

SLIPPER CAMP: THE STORY
In 2011, I noticed that there were many online Writing Boot Camps – they all ask for writing to be done every day. I decided that pace was too hectic – ergo, Slipper Camp. Geared to our busy lives. A gentler way to get some great writing done over 20 days. I create three unique prompts per day for you to choose from – totaling 30 prompts per Slipper Camp. OR you can choose to write from none of the prompts and use this as a kickass way to get 10,000 words written over 20 days. However you do it, It WORKS.

Now, over 250 writers later, this is my 17th Slipper Camp with brand new prompts.

So let’s get writing and have some fun! Please message me for the fee. I welcome you to Slipper Camp!

“The Alchemy of Healing” was inspired by the art of repairing pottery with gold or silver lacquer and understanding that the piece is more beautiful for having been broken.

Through a powerful blend of meditation and movement accessible to everyone, writing exercises, group sharing, and discussion we will dive deep into the stories that live inside us and are waiting to be told.

Linda and Ann invite you to move, breathe, laugh, and write, using your mind, body, and spirit in this enlightening workshop.

There will be a delicious catered lunch and dessert.

1661002_10152979759050957_6847343706526910491_n

Begins: September 11th

Dear Writers,

I’m excited to announce a new Slipper Camp!!!

THE DETAILS:
– Slipper Camp is a 20 day online writing experience. (10 days of receiving writing prompts; 2 days to write each one.) I call it Slipper Camp because you can stay home and write in your PJ’S and slippers!
I also call it Slipper Camp because, unlike other online Boot Camps, you have two days to write each prompt instead of one.
– When you sign up, every OTHER morning, starting September 11th and ending on October 1st, you will receive writing prompts from me in your email.
– You will get explicit instructions about how to do this.
– You will be asked to write 1,000 words (approx 2 pages) on a prompt and to send it to me by midnight of the following day.
When the 20 days are up, you will have written 20,000 words. No small feat.
After it ends, we will talk (over the phone) about your writing

And the theme is…. FAMILY.
We all have one. We all have things to say about this subject. This Slipper Camp will guide you to write about one of the subjects you know best.
This can be a great opportunity to say what you’ve been thinking about or longing to say; to tell family stories you’ve never written down; a chance to write about a special family photo or a childhood memory or something that happened last week.
(OR.. you can ignore the prompts and use Slipper Camp as a 20 day kick in the pants to work on that project you’ve been putting down.
Many have used it that way.)

That’s it. (By the way, this is the one and only Slipper Camp of its kind. There are other online Writing Boot Camps – but they all ask for writing to be done every day. I decided that pace was too hectic for us – ergo, Slipper Camp. Geared to our busy lives. A gentler way to get some writing done over 20 days.)
– Tuition is the same as always – $200 ($10/day for 20 days.)
Please pass this on if you like.

Please pass this on, if you like. Slipper Camp makes a great gift for someone else and.. we have gift certificates! (Sign up via https://lindaschreyer.wordpress.com/events/, through here, or email me @lspravina21@gmail.com)
