Semi-Private Weekly Classes

Description:

Telling Your Story

Everyone has a story. Whether it’s a blog or an article; essays or a novel; nonfiction, fiction, a thesis or a script, Telling Your Story guides you to find your voice and to write with truth, heart and confidence.

As I’ve taught writing over the past 19 years I’ve developed a step-by-step approach to some of the common questions students ask:

  • What do I want to say?
  • How do I write it clearly and simply?
  • How do I structure my pieces?
  • How do I revise them?
  • When do I know my writing is done?
  • And much more.

At the first class, students answer the question: What is the story that’s calling my name?  From then on, in-class writings and homework writing exercises help each student find and polish his/her original voice. Together, we discover moments that can be written about simply, using details of what we see, hear, touch, taste and remember.

Classes are small. We meet once a week for two hours, around the table.

Writing assignments are read aloud in the small workshop setting with non-judgmental feedback from participants and instructor.

Bonds form as students read, support and critique each other’s work.  By the end of the session, students are cheering each other on as they complete a collection of writing in their chosen form.
